Imagine snorkeling in pristine bays of turquoise waters, relaxing on white sand beaches beneath rustling palm fronds. Welcome to life on St. Croix! Just 82 square miles, St. Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands, lying 40 miles south of her sister islands St. Thomas and St. John in the western Caribbean. St. Croix is located 1,100 miles southeast of Miami and 1,650 miles southeast of New York. Many flights arrive conveniently through Puerto Rico, our American neighbor just 90 miles westward.

St. Croix is home to approximately 55,000 residents from an array of cultural backgrounds. Historically, the island has been host to people from all over the world-- native Arawaks and Caribs, enslaved Africans and Irish, and colonists and plantation owners from Spain, Holland, Britain, France and Denmark. Today, St. Croix's unique heritage manifests in a variety of cultural events year-round that represent a blend of African, European and Caribbean roots.

Living up to its name as America's Paradise, St. Croix boasts balmy tropical weather all year long. Trade winds keep the island cool, with temperatures averaging from 77º F in winter to 82º F in summer. The average rainfall is 40 inches per year, with 70 to 80% humidity year-round.

Tax Incentives

The Economic Development Commission (EDC), or Economic Development Authority (EDA), is a branch of the government that seeks to foster economic growth within the US Virgin Islands. The EDC offers tax incentives to qualifying US corporations that move or open businesses in the US Virgin Islands. The federal and territorial governments created this incentive to create jobs and stimulate local economy. The tax incentives include substantial reductions in, or exemptions from many of the taxes imposed on US businesses. For example, businesses can receive up to a 90% exemption on corporate income taxes, and up to 100% exemption on property taxes, gross receipts taxes, and excise taxes for building materials for up to 15 years. Qualifying businesses must in manufacturing, goods producing, product assembly, or a service business that provide a certain service to customers outside the US Virgin Islands. Life in America's Paradise is relaxed and laid back. Things happen on here at a slow pace, especially for those who are accustomed to deadlines and quotas. Many statesiders have moved to St. Croix because they wanted to "drop out" of the corporate world and enjoy the slower pace of island life. Prestigious jobs, flashy clothes and fancy cars are remarkably unimportant here. We take on our day with a light heart and an easy laugh.
